Time: 8:30 AM
Location: Lifeguard Headquarters, Beach and Grant Street

The minimum age for candidates is 16 years old.

The test is broken up into 3 phases:

• Phase 1 – 500 meter pool swim in under 10 minutes.

• Phase 2 – 1/2 run in under 3 minutes and 45 seconds

• Phase 3 – Interview with Chief, Captain, and Lieutenants

Successful candidates will be invited to the CMBP rookie school. Rookie school consists of a week-long training program in ocean lifeguarding, CPR, and first aid.  Those who succeed in completing rookie school will be offered a position as a lifeguard for the City of Cape May.  Rookie guards will be assigned a beach with a Senior Lifeguard who will continue their training program throughout the summer.
